Poppy Fund
The annual Poppy Campaign, which is the foundation of the Legion's Remembrance Program, is a major source of funding of the Legion's across Canada. The generosity of Canadians enables the Legions to ensure that our veterans and their dependents are cared for and treated with the respect that they deserve.
The Poppy Campaign runs each November and Branch 486 actively participates, raising over $150,000 in the past 5 years alone. The Poppies are distributed to Canadians of all ages and serve to perpetuate Remembrance by ensuring that the memory and sacrifices of our war veterans are never forgotten.
These funds are used for Assisting ex-service personnel and their dependents that require assistance. This includes the Canadian Forces, Reserves, Merchant Marine and ex-service personnel from both Commonwealth countries and allied countries who are now residing in Canada.
These funds are used for one-time emergency assistance and may not provide for an individual over time.
Cost of poppies and related materials, prizes for literary and poster contents, university or college bursaries for children or grandchildren of veterans that are in need of assistance are paid out of the Poppy Fund.
